Ingredients
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp instant yeast
- 300 ml warm water
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 egg yolk (for topping)
- 2 tbsp yogurt (for topping)
- Sesame seeds or nigella seeds (optional)
👩🍳 Instructions
1. Activate & mix
In a bowl, combine:
- Warm water
- Sugar
- Yeast
Let it sit for about 5–10 minutes until foamy.
2. Make the dough
Add:
- Flour
- Salt
- Olive oil
Mix and knead for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and soft.
3. First rise
- Cover the dough
- Let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour (until doubled)
4. Shape the bread
- Transfer dough to a baking tray lined with paper
- Flatten into an oval or round shape (about 2–3 cm thick)
- Use your fingers to create the classic grid pattern on top
5. Second rise
Let it rest for 20–30 minutes
6. Prepare topping
Mix:
- Egg yolk
- Yogurt
Brush gently over the dough, then sprinkle seeds.
7. Bake
- Preheat oven to 220°C
- Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden brown
🔥 Tips
- Put a small tray of water in the oven for steam → softer crust
- Best eaten warm
- Perfect with hummus, grilled meat, or cheese
