Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 ½ cups buttermilk
- ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

Instructions
- Preheat oven
Set your oven to 450°F (230°C). - Melt the butter
Pour the melted butter into an 8×8 or 9×9 baking dish, making sure it evenly coats the bottom. - Mix dry ingredients
In a bowl, whisk together:- Flour
- Baking powder
- Sugar
- Salt
- Add buttermilk
Pour in the buttermilk and stir until just combined.
The dough will be very soft and sticky—that’s perfect. - Transfer dough
Gently spread the dough over the melted butter in the baking dish.
Use a spatula or your hands to spread it evenly. - Cut before baking
Use a knife to cut the dough into squares (this makes serving easier later). - Bake
Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown. - Cool slightly & serve
Let them sit for a few minutes, then serve warm.
Tips for Best Results
- Don’t overmix the dough—this keeps the biscuits fluffy.
- If you don’t have buttermilk, you can make a quick substitute:
1½ cups milk + 1½ tablespoons lemon juice or vinegar (let sit 5 minutes). - For extra flavor, brush a little honey or garlic butter on top after baking.
