Roasted Cabbage Steaks with Bacon: A Low-Carb, Flavor-Packed Side Dish

Ingredients

  • 1 large green cabbage
  • 6–8 slices bacon
  • 2–3 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Salt (to taste)
  • ½ tsp chili flakes (optional)
  • 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar (optional, for finishing)
  • Fresh parsley (chopped, for garnish)

  1. Preheat oven
    Set to 200°C (400°F). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the cabbage steaks
    • Remove outer leaves from the cabbage.
    • Slice into thick rounds (about 2–3 cm thick).
    • Keep the core intact so steaks hold together.
  3. Season
    • Arrange cabbage slices on the baking sheet.
    • Brush both sides with olive oil.
    • Sprinkle with garlic, paprika, salt, pepper, and chili flakes.
  4. Add bacon
    • Chop bacon into small pieces.
    • Sprinkle evenly over each cabbage steak.
  5. Roast
    Bake for 25–30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until:

    • Edges are crispy
    • Bacon is cooked and slightly crisp
  6. Finish & serve
    • Drizzle lightly with balsamic vinegar (optional).
    • Garnish with fresh parsley.
    • Serve hot.
