Ingredients

For the Garlic Butter Steak Bites

  • 1 1/2 lbs sirloin steak, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 5 garlic cloves, minced
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • Fresh parsley, minced (for garnish)

For the Cheesy Smashed Potatoes

  • 1 1/2 lbs baby potatoes
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 minced garlic cloves
  • Fresh chives, chopped (for garnish)

Directions

Step 1 — Prepare the Potatoes

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Place the baby potatoes in a large pot and cover with water. Add a pinch of salt.
  3. Bring to a boil and cook until the potatoes are tender, about 15 minutes.
  4. Drain the potatoes and spread them on a baking sheet.
  5. Using the bottom of a glass or a potato masher, gently smash each potato until slightly flattened but still intact.

Step 2 — Make the Cheesy Smashed Potatoes

  1. Drizzle the potatoes generously with olive oil, then season with salt and pepper.
  2. Bake in the oven for 20 minutes, or until crispy and golden on the edges.
  3. Meanwhile, melt 2 tbsp butter in a small pan and sauté 2 minced garlic cloves for 1 minute.
  4. Remove the potatoes from the oven, brush them with the garlic butter, and sprinkle with the cheddar cheese.
  5. Return to the oven for 5–7 minutes, until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly.
  6. Garnish with chopped chives.

Step 3 — Cook the Steak Bites

  1. Pat the steak pieces dry with paper towels. This helps them sear properly.
  2. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Heat 2 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Add the steak bites in a single layer (cook in batches if necessary) and sear for 2–3 minutes per side, until browned and cooked to your liking. Remove the steak from the pan.
  5. In the same skillet, lower the heat and add 4 tbsp butter.
  6. Add the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  7. Return the steak bites to the skillet and toss them in the garlic butter sauce.
  8. Garnish with fresh parsley.

Step 4 — Serve

Plate the cheesy smashed potatoes and top with the juicy garlic butter steak bites. Serve hot for the ultimate comforting meal!
