KFC-Style Homemade Biscuits
Soft, flaky, buttery biscuits just like the ones from KFC — but even better when made at home! Perfect for breakfast, dinner, or as a side with fried chicken.
Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 2 teaspoons white granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1/3 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 3/4 cup cold milk (whole milk works best)
- 1 tablespoon melted butter for brushing
Instructions (Very Detailed)
1. Prepare Your Workspace
Before you start, make sure your butter and milk are very cold.
Cold ingredients = flaky, tall, perfect biscuits (exactly like KFC!).
2. Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together:
- Flour
- Baking powder
- Sugar
- Salt
This ensures everything is evenly combined and your biscuits rise nicely.
3. Cut in the Butter
Add the cold cubed butter to the flour mix.
Use your fingertips or a pastry cutter to blend it until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.
You should still see small pieces of butter — these melt in the oven and create layers.
4. Add the Milk
Pour the cold milk into the bowl.
Gently mix with a wooden spoon just until the dough comes together.
Don’t overmix — overworking the dough makes the biscuits tough.
5. Shape the Dough
Lightly flour your countertop, then place the dough on it.
Pat it down gently into a rectangle.
Fold it in half — this creates layers.
Repeat this 3–4 times.
Finally, flatten to about 1 inch thick.
6. Cut the Biscuits
Use a biscuit cutter or a glass to cut circles.
Press straight down — don’t twist — twisting seals the edges and stops the biscuits from rising.
Place the cut biscuits close together on a baking sheet for soft sides, or spaced out for crispier edges.
7. Bake
Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
Bake the biscuits for 12–15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
8. Butter Them Up
While still hot, brush the tops with melted butter for that signature KFC shine and flavor.
