Ingredients
- 3–4 large sweet potatoes
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 1/2 cup water or orange juice
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Peel and slice sweet potatoes into even rounds (about 1–1.5 cm thick).
- Arrange slices in a single layer in a greased baking dish.
- In a bowl, mix:
- Brown sugar
- White sugar
- Melted butter
- Water or juice
- Vanilla
- Cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt
- Pour the mixture evenly over the sweet potatoes.
- Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove foil, spoon sauce over the potatoes, and bake uncovered for another 20–30 minutes until tender and caramelized.
- Occasionally baste with the syrup for extra glaze.
Tips
- For extra richness, add a splash of cream near the end.
- Add marshmallows in the last 10 minutes for a dessert-style version.
- A bit of orange zest gives a brighter flavor.
